The one and only time I've been climbing on rock was part of a work day-trip to Elbow-Sheep Wildland Provincial Park in Kananaskis Country. The Wasootch Slabs are a great recreational or training location and are perfect for beginners. The Wasootch Slabs are located approximately 95km west of Calgary along Highway 40. The trailhead for the slabs is the same parking area for the Wasootch Creek trail. The climbing area is located up a dry creek bed with some great views of the surrounding mountains, including the Wasootch Tower. Wasootch is from the Stoney Indian word wazi, meaning "unique", and was given in respect to the tower's aspect in this valley.
